The 2008 Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition - a great success! Despite the difficult economical circumstances the 2008 Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition has been deemed a success by exhibitors and visitors who attended the recent event, the 9th in its series. Held from the 2-4 October at Smárinn, Kópavogur, Iceland, nearly 500 exhibitors from 33 different countries displayed the very latest technology and products. In total 12,429 attended from 50 countries and more than 75 VIP delegates from around the world visited the exhibition, including delegations from Ecuador and Canada. The exhibition was opened on the Thursday morning by the Icelandic Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture, Einar K Guđfinnsson, who fired a shot from a 140-year-old canon! The Opening Night reception featured the fourth Icelandic Fisheries Awards which were sponsored by Landsbanki. Over 350 guests enjoyed a fabulous buffet at The Tower, Smárinn, whilst marvelling at the views from the 20th floor. The Exhibition party, held on the Friday night, was sponsored by Eimskip and Landsbanki, and around 550 people danced the night away to Bogomilfont and the Millionaires.
