Mercator Media, the organisers of the Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition, the largest fishing event in the North, are pleased to announce that the 2011 event will take place from the 22-24 September 2011 at Smárinn, Kópavogur, Iceland.

Despite the difficult economical circumstances the 2008 Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition was deemed a success by exhibitors and visitors who attended the recent event, the 9th in its series. Held from the 2-4 October at Smárinn, Kópavogur, Iceland, nearly 500 exhibitors from 33 different countries displayed the very latest technology and products. In total 12,429 attended from 50 countries and more than 75 VIP delegates from around the world visited the exhibition, including delegations from Ecuador and Canada. The exhibition was opened on the Thursday morning by the Icelandic Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture, Einar K Guðfinnsson, who fired a shot from a 140-year-old canon!

Eltak, an Icelandic distributor, has been exhibiting weighing equipment at the Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition since the start of the show in 1984 and Jonas Agustsson, Managing Director of Eltak, commented: "In spite of the economic climate, Eltak took many orders during the exhibition, and we are still signing contracts with customers who came to our stand for Marel weighing and Grading equipment, inspection systems from Loma in the UK and end-of-line packaging systems from Soco in Denmark. We were pleased with the show".

It wasn't all work during the three days and the evening events included the Opening Night reception featuring the fourth Icelandic Fisheries Awards, here 13 Icelandic and International winners were determined for their outstanding contributions to the Fishing Industry.  Friday night was party night when the Exhibition party was held with around 550 people dancing the night away to Bogomilfont and the Millionaires.

Since the first show in 1984, the Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition has developed into one of the world’s premier events for all aspects of the commercial fishing industry. Held only every three years, the show generates an unrivalled buzz and anticipation from exhibitors and visitors alike.  The show covers all aspects of the commercial fishing industry from the design and construction of fishing vessels and every type of on board equipment through to land based processing and packaging of sea food products.  The Manager of the Exhibition, Marianne Rasmussen said "In times of adversity, it was refreshing to see the positive attitude of our exhibitors and visitors, their professionalism and determination made the 3 day event ‘business as usual’.  We have already started preparations for the 2011 event and look forward to welcoming all back in 2 1/2 years”.
